Dominion Virginia Power Completes Hurricane Irene Restoration for Virginia Customers in D.C. Metro Area

HERNDON, Va., August 30, 2011 – Dominion Virginia Power has completed repairs and restored electric service to all Virginia customers in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area who lost power because of Hurricane Irene. This area includes the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, and Prince William and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax. Restoration efforts continue in other areas of Virginia.

The hurricane, which entered Northern Virginia just after 10 p.m. Saturday, left a total of 173,000 Dominion customers in the region without power. Of those affected, a peak of 120,000 were without electricity early Sunday.

Any outages now shown on Dominion’s online electric outage map are not related to Hurricane Irene, but are the result of subsequent events.

“Dominion employees, contractors, retirees and crews from other utilities have been focused on restoring power as safely and quickly as possible,” said Rodney Blevins, vice president of distributions operations for Dominion Virginia Power. ‘We want to thank our customers for the patience they demonstrated as our crews worked to complete the repairs and bring back their lights.”
