Dominion Foundation Offers $500,000 in K-12 Educational Grants

- Projects focus on energy, environment
- Grants up to $10,000 each to be awarded

RICHMOND, Va., Feb. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dominion Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources (NYSE: D), is accepting applications for Educational Partnership grants of up to $10,000 each. The grants will help students in kindergarten through 12th grade strengthen their mathematics and science skills by studying energy and the environment. The program is open to schools and institutions in targeted areas where Dominion does business: Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin. The Foundation expects to award about $500,000 in grants.  

The program also offers mini-grants up to $1,000 for projects that enhance the teaching of mathematics or science. Although the majority of the grants will range from $1,000 to $5,000, the Foundation can award a few exceptional grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000. Grants in this category will have a broader focus and involve larger numbers of children or classes, have a schoolwide or systemwide focus, or involve the surrounding community.

Applications must be submitted online by May 1 for new projects for the 2011-2012 school year.
