Dominion Seeks Writing Contest Entries

RICHMOND, Va. - Dominion Virginia Power is calling for entries in the 2004 Strong Men & Women writing competition, which awards U.S. savings bonds and cash prizes to African-American high school seniors and their schools in the company’s service area.

The contest is in conjunction with the company's Strong Men and Women: Excellence in Leadership series that recognizes nine state and national leaders each year. The writing contest invites high school seniors to research and write about African-American heroes who have been honored during the 13-year Strong Men & Women series. Each school creates an evaluation committee and selects two semifinalists to compete with other entries from throughout Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.

Four winners will each receive a $750 U.S. savings bond and the their schools receive $1,000 in cash.

This year’s deadline for entries is Nov.13, 2003. Awards will be presented at a ceremony in Richmond on Jan.22, 2004. For more information on the Strong Men & Women essay contest, visit the company’s Web site at, keyword: strong.
