Dominion Declares Alert at Millstone Power Station

April 17, 2005

WATERFORD, Conn. - An emergency was declared today at Millstone Power Station Unit 3. An Alert, the second lowest of four emergency classifications used by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, was declared at 8:42 a.m.

Unit 3 has been shutdown and is in a stable condition. Federal, state and local emergency response agencies have been notified. An Alert ensures that additional emergency response personnel are on standby and ready to respond if needed.

No release of radioactive material has occurred beyond those minor releases associated with normal plant operations. These minor releases pose no danger to the public or plant workers. The minor releases are below federally approved operating limits, below natural background levels and can not be detected at the site boundary.

Further information about conditions at Millstone will be provided as it becomes available.

As part of the Millstone emergency response plan, an Emergency Operations Facility has been activated at the nuclear station in Waterford, Connecticut.

The Millstone Power Station is owned and operated by Dominion.
