RICHMOND, Va. – Dominion Virginia Power is on track to finish restoring power tonight to all customers affected by the powerful, fast-moving storm that passed through the Richmond metro and Williamsburg areas around 2:30 p.m. Monday. As of 4:30 p.m. today, power had been restored to more than 187,000 of the 192,000 affected customers.

“This has been a trying time for many of our customers,” said Rodney Blevins, vice president of distribution operations. “We recognize the hardships that being without electricity can bring, and we appreciate our customers’ patience and support throughout the restoration effort.”

More than 2,000 linemen and support staff, including workers from neighboring utilities, engaged in the effort. The storm hit central Virginia with a tornado and strong winds with reported gusts of up to 95 miles per hour, bringing down trees, limbs and severely damaging utility poles, cross-arms and power lines in isolated and scattered areas.
