RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Six students have been accepted into the Dominion Memorial Scholarship Program. These recent high school graduates, pursuing higher education in the fall, will receive up to $5,000 for the 2015-2016 academic year. The scholarship is renewable for an additional three years.

Now in its eighth year, the scholarship fund was established in memory of Matthew Gwaltney, Rachael Hill and Nicole White – students with close ties to Dominion who were killed in the April 16, 2007 shootings at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. The scholarships are awarded to children or grandchildren of Dominion employees and retirees.

"These students were selected based on academic performance, community service and leadership," said Thomas F. Farrell II, chairman, president and chief executive officer at Dominion Resources. "They have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in these areas. Matthew, Rachael and Nicole were known for these traits, and we are confident the scholarship recipients will honor their memories through their continued success."

• Maxwell Hampton of Bristol, R.I., graduated from Providence Country Day High School and plans to attend Haverford College.
• Holly Lynn Love of Chesterfield, Va., graduated from Thomas Dale High School and plans to attend Virginia Commonwealth University to study nursing.
• Raleigh K. Marria of Gum Spring, Va., graduated from Goochland High School and plans to attend James Madison University to study nursing.
• Olivia Maslanka of Parma, Ohio, graduated from Parma Senior High School and plans to attend Cleveland State University to study mathematics.
• Asa Ricketts of Lost Creek, W.Va., graduated from South Harrison High School and plans to attend West Virginia University to study either chemical engineering or pharmacy.
• Ananya Venkatesh of Glen Allen, Va., graduated from Henrico High School and plans to attend Virginia Commonwealth University to study biology.

The winners were selected from among 125 applicants from nine states.
