RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Diane Poldy of Fairfax is the 10,000th Dominion Virginia Power customer to enroll in the Dominion Green Power(SM) program, an easy and affordable way to help the environment by supporting renewable energy.

"I believe in supporting green energy," said Poldy. "It's one thing I can do to give my grandchildren a better world to live in, making it a better place for them now and in the future." Note to editors: Watch a YouTube video interview with Ms. Poldy and a Dominion Green Power program manager.

"We are extremely pleased with this program's continuing success," said Ken Barker, Dominion vice president of customer solutions and energy conservation. "This voluntary program enables customers to ensure that renewable energy is delivered to the grid, and it encourages the development of new renewable power facilities. Green power also reduces the environmental impact of generating electricity from fossil fuels."

Dominion Green Power has been available since Jan. 1, 2009. Each customer enrolled in the 100 percent option for one year prevents the release of 8.5 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, which is equivalent to removing one and a half automobiles from the road for a year or planting 219 trees.

The Dominion Green Power program has been approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission and has achieved Green-e® Energy certification from the Center for Resource Solutions, a national nonprofit organization.  Green-e® Energy is the nation's leading independent consumer protection program for the sale of renewable energy.
