Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center Project Reaches Safety Milestone

ST. PAUL, Va., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Workers at Dominion's Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center project have completed 5 million worker-hours without a lost-time accident since construction began at the power station.

A project report for the week ending June 13 showed that 5,074,643 worker-hours had been dedicated to the power station project as of that date. An average of 1,851 people are working at the Wise County project each day, with more than 500 of them residents of the Southwest Virginia area.

"Achieving 5 million worker-hours without a lost-time accident is a rare accomplishment for an undertaking as large and complex as the construction of this power station," said Charlie Scott, Dominion site project manager. "This achievement clearly drives home the point that Dominion does not compromise on job safety and expects the same level of dedication to safety from its contractors."

The Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center is scheduled to go into commercial operation in the summer of 2012. It is a 585-megawatt power station that will produce enough electricity to supply roughly 150,000 residential customers of Dominion Virginia Power.

Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers and transporters of energy, with a portfolio of more than 27,500 megawatts of generation. Dominion operates the nation's largest natural gas storage system and serves retail energy customers in 12 states. For more information about Dominion, visit the company's Web site at www.dom.com.
