Dominion Hosts Inaugural-Themed Leadership Program For Virginia Students

-Dominion Foundation to fund students' projects

RICHMOND, Va. – Inspired by the upcoming inauguration of the nation's first African-American president, students across Virginia discussed their place in history with Gov. Timothy M. Kaine Friday at a leadership program sponsored by Dominion.

Kaine, other political leaders and Dominion executives visited with students from Richmond, Wise County, Alexandria, Petersburg and Norfolk during a workshop at the energy company's offices. The Dominion Foundation presented $5,000 checks for each school system to use to implement leadership programs created by students during the spring semester, such as a Standards of Learning tutoring program or a college preparation club.

The theme for the program stemmed from a question that then-U.S. Sen. Barack Obama asked Knox College graduates to consider during a commencement speech in 2005: "What will be my place in history?"

"In a few days we will celebrate the inauguration of a new leader for our nation. Dominion's program is intended to draw attention to how these students can be leaders to bring about constructive change for their schools and communities," said Thomas F. Farrell II, chairman, president and CEO of Dominion.
