January 9, 2009

RICHMOND, Va. — The Dominion Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources, has awarded a grant of $1 million to Virginia Union University to support student scholarships and academic programs at the historically black university. Dominion has contributed nearly $2.5 million to Virginia Union over the past quarter century.

"We are pleased to be able to make this grant to the university," said William C. Hall Jr., vice president-Corporate Communications and president of the Dominion Foundation. "Virginia Union is a vital and venerable institution of higher learning in Virginia. It is very deserving of our support and of the backing of the entire community."

"Dominion is the largest corporate contributor in the university’s 141-year history," said Dr. Belinda Childress Anderson, president of Virginia Union. "We deeply appreciate this exceptional level of support and look forward to many more years of working together for the benefit of Virginia Union students."

This year, Dominion, its charitable foundation and its employees will invest more than $20 million and 100,000 volunteer hours in programs that help improve the quality of life for people in the states where Dominion operates power stations, natural gas and other energy facilities. Grant focus areas included preservation of natural and historic resources, work force development and education, diversity initiatives, neighborhood and community development, and meeting basic needs for food, shelter and clothing.

Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers of energy, with a portfolio of approximately 27,000 megawatts of generation. Dominion serves retail energy customers in 12 states. For more information about Dominion, visit the company's Web site at http://www.dom.com.
