April 10, 2002

NEW ORLEANS – Representing the best in volunteerism and commitment to her community, New Orleans native Sue Peters will be honored as one of Dominion’s Volunteers of the Year for 2001.

Peters is one of 12 employees and retirees being recognized as “Hometown Heroes” — the theme for the company’s 2001 volunteer recognition program. She will be honored at Dominion’s annual awards ceremony April 16 in Richmond, Virginia.

A lead drafter at Dominion Exploration & Production, Inc. in New Orleans, Peters is an enthusiastic volunteer for a number of causes in the community. For seven years she has given freely and generously of her time, talent and financial support to the Southern Animal Foundation (SAF). At the shelter she spends between five to ten hours weekly exercising and socializing with animals that have been abused, neglected or abandoned.

In addition to providing one on one contact with these animals, Peters is the costumer for the shelter, designing and making costumes for the adoption dogs to participate in Barkus, a Mardi Gras parade just for dogs. She also takes the animals to various fairs and pet stores for adoption opportunities. She personally has placed three of them with co-workers in her department.

Peters other passion in volunteering, has been Food for Friends, A Program of NO/AIDS Task force. This program delivers meals to people who are homebound and living with HIV/Aids. For the past nine years, she has spent one evening a week in the kitchen preparing and assembling meals for the next day’s delivery. She is also involved in special holiday meals preparation and delivery and training seminars.

“It’s something that I absolutely love doing. These are both causes that are very close to my heart,” said Peters. “The organizations can always use more help. If anyone is interested in helping by volunteering or making a donation, please call them,” she added.

In addition to these regular activities, Peters has also volunteered for Special Olympics, the public television membership drives, the company adopt-a-family Christmas project, the Contemporary Arts Center and the Olympic Torch Relay through the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation.

For being selected as a “Volunteer of the Year,” the Dominion Foundation will make a $1,000 donation to Peters’ charity of choice, Southern Animal Foundation.
