PITTSBURGH - Dominion's natural gas customers can now read their own meters and thus eliminate estimated bills. Estimated bills are based on historical use and weather, and could result in underestimated or overestimated bills until an actual reading is taken.

"We are trying to provide the best service and most accurate bills possible during the current work stoppage in Pennsylvania," said Jimmy Staton, senior vice president of operations for Dominion's energy delivery system. "That's why we are encouraging customers to use these existing automated meter-reading programs."

After reading their meters, customers can either report the information online or phone it into the company's automated messaging system. Those who want to enter the reading online should go to the Dominion Web site at www.dom.com and click "Customer Service." Select either "My Home" or "My Business" and the state where you have service, which is Pennsylvania. Under "My Service" on the right side, select "Enter a Meter Reading."

Customers must then log in with their account number, zipcode and a personal identification number. Personal identification numbers can be obtained by calling Dominion toll-free at 1-800-764-0111. Once logged on, customers should follow instructions on how to enter a meter reading.

Customers may also phone in their readings through the company's automated messaging system day or night by calling Dominion toll-free at 1-800-764-0111.

Customers can avoid an estimated bill by reporting the meter read by 5 p.m. on the billing date, which can be found at the top of the most recent bill. If reported earlier than that, the company will estimate the remaining usage based on the reading the customer provided and the weather.

Dominion is currently not reading meters in Pennsylvania because of a work stoppage. During this period, Dominion remains committed to providing safe, reliable service to its customers. Emergency service is available by calling toll-free at 1-800-400-4271. Emergency services include odors of gas, fire, low pressure, gas service interrupted to gas appliances and weather-related situations.

The company will also maintain its Call Center operations between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Customers may continue contacting Dominion, toll-free, at 1-800-764-0111. However, non-emergency items may take longer to resolve.
