July 28, 2004

RICHMOND, Va. - A Dominion Virginia Power lineman restoring electrical service near Montross, Va., early Wednesday was struck and killed by a truck.

William Dale Clarke, 44, of Tappahannock, Va., was a 22-year veteran employee of Dominion who worked at the Northern Neck-Lively office. He was completing work at a job site along State Route 202 when the accident occurred.

Virginia State Police, Westmoreland County, Va., authorities, the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Dominion’s safety department are investigating.

A strong line of thunderstorms moved through Central Virginia and into the state’s Northern Neck Tuesday afternoon, causing electrical outages for about 38,000 customers in the company’s service area. About 950 customers in Central Virginia and the Northern Neck were without power as of 3 p.m. Wednesday.
