(CARLTON, WI) - Dominion (NYSE: D), owner of the Kewaunee Power Station, filed an application Thursday to renew the facility's operating license with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

The 568-megawatt nuclear unit, located about 25 miles east of Green Bay, is licensed to operate through December 21, 2013. With a renewed license, the station would be able to provide Wisconsin with safe, clean and reliable electricity through December 21, 2033.

Dominion's three other nuclear stations have been granted renewed licenses for an additional 20 years by the NRC. The North Anna and Surry power stations, both located in Virginia, received renewed licenses in 2003, and Millstone Power Station in Connecticut, was awarded a renewed license in 2005. Dominion purchased the Kewaunee station in July 2005.

Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers and transporters of energy, with a portfolio of approximately 27,000 megawatts of generation, 1.1 trillion cubic feet equivalent of proved natural gas and oil reserves, 14,000 miles of natural gas transmission, gathering and storage pipeline and 6,000 miles of electric transmission lines.
