- Part of company's approximately $20 million annual philanthropic giving program
- Company strives to help meet basic human needs in difficult economic times

RICHMOND, Va., Dec. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Dominion is donating an additional $225,000 to area food banks and food pantries to help feed people in need during the holidays, bringing this year's total to more than $425,000.

"The ongoing weak economy has put many out of work and in need of basic necessities such as food, shelter and medical care," said Thomas F. Farrell II, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Dominion.  "As we celebrate our blessings during this holiday season, we also must feel the plight of those facing hunger."

The grants are being made through The Dominion Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources, one of the nation's largest energy producers.  Foundation grants are funded by shareholder dollars and are not borne by customers.

Grants are being awarded to: Virginia; District of Columbia; Maryland; the Midwest; New England; New York; North Carolina; Ohio; Pennsylvania; Texas, and West Virginia. A detailed list is available at: www.dom.com/about/community/pdf/2012food-banks.pdf

An example of these contributions is a grant to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, in Norfolk, to support the Mobile Pantry Program. The mobile pantry "hits the road" providing much-needed food, at no charge, directly to vulnerable populations such as children, seniors, and those with limited mobility.

Dominion and The Dominion Foundation's total giving is expected to reach more than $20 million this year. The company is proud that its employees average approximately 150,000 volunteer hours annually to various charitable and community programs designed to improve life in the localities where the company operates its energy facilities.

Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers and transporters of energy. Dominion operates one of the nation's largest natural gas storage systems and serves retail energy customers in 15 states. For more information about Dominion, visit the company's website at www.dom.com.
